Cristiano Ronaldo equals the Champions League Group Stage goal scoring record

The Portuguese star has netted eight goals in this edition, equalling the record held by Van Nistelrooy, Inzaghi and Crespo, and he still has two games left in which to break the record

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal against Juventus in Turin allowed him to equal the Champions League Group Stage goal scoring record. He joins the likes of Van Nistelrooy, who scored eight during the 2004/05 season, and Crespo and Inzaghi, who did the same in 2002/03. Ronaldo can now look forward to two rounds to become the sole maximum goal scorer in the history of the competition's Group Stage.
In addition, Ronaldo also tied with Inzaghi as the only footballer to have scored eight goals in the first four rounds of the Champions League. Throughout his career the Real Madrid forward has been the leading scorer of the Group Stage on three occasions. The first time was during the 2007/08 season, with five goals while playing for Manchester United, tying with Ibrahimovic. With Real he was top scorer during the 2009/10 season with six goals, and last season, also with six goals, he shared this honour with Burak Yilmaz. With Real he has scored 27 goals in this stage.
